Woman charged in shooting death of boyfriend

Investigators said just before 1 a.m. Tuesday, deputies were called to a home on Harris Road for the report of a shooting.

When deputies arrived, they found Darren William Haverty, 39, dead. Deputies spoke with Wendy Hanks, 33, who told them that she and Haverty got into an argument and then a physical fight. Hanks told deputies that Haverty hit her and then came at her with a knife so she shot him.

Investigators said they discovered evidence at the crime scene and during the autopsy that conflicted with Hanks' statements of self defense. Based on the information, Hanks was arrested and charged with premeditated murder and booked into the Osceola County Jail.
