CherokeeNative wrote:Ya know, we've all taken a stand on where we are on this case after following the trial just as the jurors have. Could someone sway your way of thinking what the sentence should be at this point? Most likely not - but maybe.
Having said that, I truly am beginning to believe that there is at least one juror has purposely misrepresented to the attorneys and the court their position on the death penalty for the sole purpose of hanging the jury in the event it reached this point.
Some people have very strong feelings against the death penalty - I mean they spend their lives trying to take the death penalty off the books in a court of law - and their attitude is that until they can accomplish that, if they are called for jury duty on a death penalty case, they will do whatever they can to prevent it from being imposed.
My heart pours out to the victim's family - looking at Steven he has that look like, "I can't take much more of this." Almost like he is near a nervous breakdown or suicide...really, his eyes have that look. My prayers go out to him and his sisters that this jury will do the right thing and not drag this case out.
No...please...thats what Im afraid of...Steven doesn't look ok. I will pray for him more tonight...

I wonder if its one hold out or more. These jurors knew that this was a death penalty case, they found her guilty of first degree and then found the murder to have been cruel, I really don't understand this part of it. Why would any juror hold out now? It just doesn't make sense. They did their job perfectly all through this trial, what possible reason would anyone of them have to hold out now?
--the point of presenting their mitigating factors may have swayed one or more of the jurors.
--she was only 27 at the time, wants to promote DV awareness/sell her "survivor" shirt, help others (teaching Spanish, sign language, implement recycling in prison..) her life still has value, "please please don't do this to my family..."
--if this had been the other way around (travis slaughtered Jodi) we'd be here now saying, "hey, remember the Jodi arias trial last winter? I wonder how he's enjoying death row.." it would be such a done deal already.
--I actually wonder what the role of the mitigation specialist was in this trial? all we ever saw her do, was sit there every day, babysit Jodi during sidebars.....

Juan put this woman way on Death Row...Wendy Ariano...jury took 4 days to come back with the DP. Reassured me somewhat. The jurors point of view on how they came to that decision.
Thank you so much. It helped me to calm down too. The way that felt they made the right decision when she gave them that superior look when she heard it made me feel great.

Oh wow...what a small work cb! Hope I am not being too forward...but her family...how were they during this? And now? Has she ever (wendy) said she was sorry?
Her family is really upsetting me...all the laughing and talking in the courtroom is uncalled for. They have no respect for the Alexander's...and less for the court. Watching mumma Arias giggle with patti the bff got my blood going!
Nobody wins in these cases. Travis was a good man. She killed him because he didn't want to be with her. I'm not in any way saying her family shouldn't support her...I hope to never be in their shoes. They seem to be somehow 'condoning' what she did by their outrageous behavior. Add to that mumma trying to sell the forged letters to the enquirer: I lost all my empathy for her.

Latest development in Jodi Arias trial, May 22
This case is just insane. The jury is taking a really long time deliberating about whether Arias deserves a life or death sentence. Here's a story explaining the situation and an interview ABC did with Arias while all of this was going on:

thanks for the first link ... i cannot read one more interview with the wench .. i barely made it through her 19 min "mercy plea" ... I felt like asking for mercy from having to hear or see her one more time.
Welcome to the group. Its a good group and everyone is very polite to each other ... even if sometimes, sarcastic ... but they are all really good people ... with lots of knowledge

maybe, I should have kept my "Tues" guess for time of return jury verdict ...
I had a thought as we all try to figure out what on earth was going on in the jury room ... but need to find a link to the video of the Allen charge today ... it was something that the judge said - the way she presented it that has me wondering if maybe one of the jurors was refusing to cooperate with the rest ...

I wasn't able to follow this because I have things to do on Tues and Wed. but did check my phone to see if decision made. When I read the jury was hung I said Oh sh*t -- and had to pay for it.. the women around me were surprised that the jury is taking so long the majority (all) of my friends felt DP was appropriate and we are not all DP pro

Lets hope that the juror/juror's that are holding out take a peak at the news and see what Jodi is doing while they think she shouldn't get the DS. Let them see how she is insisting that she is a survivor of DA and how she is continually downing Travis.
Butiof cours they wont watch TV and wont get to see the real Jodi (even though they should be well aware of how she is by now).
I just don't get it, they went thru all the motions, found her guilty of first degree murder, having done it in a cruel manner and yet they can't sign off on a death sentence.

Jodi can change anyones mind about the DP. I know a few people also that are against it, but changed their mind with Jodi.

--I can understand that we don't yet have a verdict. DP qualified or not, this is a huge decision for them, one that once delivered, there's no "take-backs", or do-overs. as the judge said, what they decide is NOT a "recommendation"---it's binding.

Deciding life, death takes toll on jurors--Wendi Andriano DP case ).
--my guess is that we'll either hear from them (after sleeping on it tonight) late tomorrow a.m. ----if not, they won't give up yet and they'll be back Tuesday to continue. also, juan, and the family won't throw in the towel this early and take the DP off the table.

Re: Jodi Arias #4
A few things:
1) Why can't they deliberate tomorrow? No wonder this thing is taking so long. They only work 1-3 days a week.
2) I've been on the fence on giving her the DP all along. Now that I've seen her speech and her subsequent interviews, I'm now on the side of putting her on death row. I'm still thinking they'll have a hard time getting 12 people to agree on that but if I were to be polled, I'd vote for DP
3) Hey, anyone seen this?
OK, I know the dating scene has changed since my time there but how do you exchange that many e-mails in less than 2 yrs? How'd you like to be the clerk that had to sort through all of those? Get a life

September 2006 – Travis Alexander met Jodi Arias at a conference in Las Vegas. At the time, Alexander was a 30-year-old motivational speaker and legal-insurance salesman. Arias, then 28, was living in Palm Desert, Calif., and was trying to make it as a saleswoman and an independent photographer. The two had an instant connection and spoke on the phone every day. Court records indicate that the couple exchanged 82,000 emails.
