Jodi Arias #2

I love the way today went, he's cutting to the chase and not taking any corners. I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

I cannot believe how much pleasure she was taking in hearing herself, re-reading her texts and watching herself on 48 hours. If I were in a fight for my life I don't think I'd ever be so "cocky". I think JM did very well in showing exactly where he's headed with his cross examination, wonder how Nurmi's gonna do too.

Martinez may be boring many with the way the questioning is going, but as I previously commented that it was going to be like an "honesty test" (if anyone had to ever take one for a job they would understand what I'm talking about) They are very hard to pass if you are any kind of a liar. The questions go back and forth and are asked in a different manner each time, but the answers should be the same if you are telling the truth.

Martinez is obviously proving on that stand of what a liar Jodi is. Now, when he gets to the stabbing and she again says that she doesn't remember, the jury is not going to believe her. They are not going to believe that Jodi is suffering from being an abused woman.

I also understand about this rope business. Jody had to find a way to say that a knife was close by and that she didn't bring one with her, just like the lie about the gun. Martinez is trying to show that there was NO rope therefore there was no knife nearby. He is doing a great job with all the questioning of the rope being cut and where is the part that was cut off.

I also think that he certainly convinced the jury that she was the one that brought the gun to his home. Of course she cannot say that she threw the knife away just like the gun because that would indicate that she was aware of using the knife.

Jodi had 4 years to conjur up her answers, she thought she had it in the bag. However, I'm sure that SHE is not so sure anymore. Martinez is doing a great job.

Jodi actually was smiling on that witness stand, does she actually find this funny? I'm sure her lawyer got in her case about that.

Can't wait for it to continue today.

Angiefly, I really appreciate this because I can't see all the trial due to having fixing up to do. I was hoping to get to see more than I saw on JVM and NG last evening. My daughter been keeping up with it and telling me somethings. However, I do get to see some of it when I take my few breaks.

I can see the worried look on Jodi's face between her fake smiles. I think she knows what her destiny is going to be. No jury on this earth will believe that this wasn't premeditation.

JVM had on the guy that visits her regularly in jail, and he was saying she is so 'confident' because she thinks that it is going to result in a mistrial.

Apparently they are computing that after a mistrial, the next trial will result in a manslaughter conviction, and she plans on being free within 5 years of the manslaughter conviction, due to time served.

Today's cross-examination was so powerful that I wanted to capture everything of importance, so I've spent this evening re-listening to all of today's testimony. Here's what I captured.

What Mr. Martinez got Jodi to admit today:

- she lied about whether or not Travis had shaved on June 4, 2008
- she lied about sex being uncomfortable because he hadn't shaved
- she lied about who deleted sex photos from camera
- she initiated taking the shower photos
- she directed him to sit down in the shower
- she agreed that her left ring finger was the only visible injury from the murder
- she killed Travis on June 4
- she remembers dropping the knife
- she acknowledges she put the camera in the washing machine
- she admitted she deleted photos after he was dead
- she acknowledges that deleting photos took multiple steps and required thought process
- she acknowledges Travis had to be standing over the sink for it to be covered in his blood
- she acknowledges that she took the glass from under the sink
- she acknowledges that she created the water marks on the boxes
- she acknowledges she had three gas cans in Salinas
- she acknowledges she removed the gun from the crime scene and threw it in the desert
- she believes that she knew at the crime scene that she did something wrong to Travis
- she acknowledges altering the crime scene (took gun, no knife found)
- she acknowledges stabbing Travis with knife
- she acknowledges a lot of the stab wounds, including the head, were in the back
- she acknowledges that if she stabbed him in the back, he was no longer a threat to her
- she agrees that she was the one who slit his throat
- she agrees that she was the one to stab him in the upper torso
- she agrees that she took the rope and threw it away in a dumpster
- she agrees she stopped before the checkpoint (cleaned off blood; took off bloody clothes and changed clothes)
- agrees it would be to her advantage to having changed clothes before getting to checkpoint
- agrees it would be to her advantage to be clean of blood prior to checkpoint
- agrees she made calls before checkpoint
- agrees fog wasn't so heavy to prevent her from calling Ryan Burns and making up story
- agrees she lied about losing cell phone charger
- agrees she lied about getting lost to deceive him
- agrees she still had ability to think to protect herself
- after coming out of fog, she immediately tries to divert attention away from her so police don't think she had anything to do with killing
- agrees that her "fog" is not so deep that she attempts to fabricate evidence
- agrees she went to great lengths to leave voice mail for Travis to throw off police
- admits that all the lies were so she could escape responsibility
- admits visiting Travis was her decision

I knew that I was really feeling like it was a good day, but the way you articulated it hits home....Today was truly was all about seeing Jodi Arias in a totally different light. Martinez finally succeeded in what he was methodically doing for the past few days, breaking her down...there was indeed a method to his madness!!! I think for the first time I saw her crying honestly...bitterly...for herself only..but you know, it was real this time...

Wow! Great list CP! Very nice work. You should send it to Juan for his close :) I was thrilled he went back to the journals and the allegations of abuse and firmly refuted all her testimony again. He is really trying not only to tell the truth about the murder, but about the murder victim!

Those tears may very well have been real, but they were tears that were saying "I'm screwed, I'm never getting out of this room that is smaller than Travis' closit". They were tears of being defeated. losing the battle of her lies that she rehearsed for 4 years. All her dreams of ever getting out went down the drain.

Someone said on NG last night that she hooked up with a woman in jail and they are planning to make a life together, that Jodi wants to be atificially inseminated by this guy that visits her in jail every week so that her and this woman can have a baby.

That's what Jodi was crying about, her hope of someday having a life while she was still young, her hope of getting manslaughter and not murder two, would have set her free real soon with all that time served. This all went down the drain yesterday.

Good job, real good job Martinez.

I agree with you. I think that Travis realized that Jodi was dangerous one way or the other. I believe that he thought she would expose him to the church which she had already told him that her friend Rachell had told her to confess to the bishop, that would mean that Travis would have been exposed. She not only is a cold blooded murderer but an extortionist as well. She was out to Travis all to herself one way or the other. I just wish he would have gone to the bishop and told everything himself and then cut all tires with this woman. But whose to say if that would have worked either.

Has anyone else noticed that Arias peeks through her boney crypt-keeper fingers while she pretends to cry? People who are REALLY CRYING do NOT do this at all. Also, on Jane Velez-Mitchell, she was caught on camera "laughing" as she removed her hands from her face. She was probably wondering how many idiots believe her never-ending supply of BS.

In addition, when she made the very callous comment about Travis's closet being larger than where she lives, I thought I was going to pop my cork. Can you just imagine how Travis's family must have felt after hearing that remark. Judging from the look on JM's face, he probably thought the same thing. Too bad they can't show the Jury photos of her peeking through her fingers while pretending to cry. The other one of her "laughing" as she was removing her hands from her face should be shown too.

Concerning the portion underlined by me, I was shocked at that.

During a trial a defendant is not made to wear their shackles or prison uniform, as it is considered 'prejudical' to the eyes of a jury. It was my understanding that they have some sort of stun belt or brace on Arias, and that is the reason that see must always take the stand before the jury enters, and leave the stand after the jury has left.

Apparently, they don't want the jury aware of the fact that she is under some restraint.

But up on the stand, she blurted right out that she lives in a jail cell. I don't know, but that would be considered pretty prejudical to the jury's ears.

I hope that doesn't cause a mistrial--which, of course, is exactly what the defense is hoping for, and may have been her intention, imo.
