Jackson — The man once known as the Mayor of Middlesex is now prisoner No. 856261.
...
But state corrections officials say the former real estate entrepreneur may not be isolated from other prisoners after he goes through a month-long intake and assessment process at the Egeler Center, where all male prisoners in Michigan first report after sentencing.
"I don't anticipate that he would not be placed in general population, but if through the intake and screening process they determine that he might be at risk, then they could put him into protective custody," Michigan Department of Corrections spokesman Russ Marlan said.
"But just because someone may have been involved in a noteworthy case, that doesn't automatically necessitate separate placement," Marlan said.

This really disturbs me. Why is there a pretrial hearing when he's already confessed? Does he need to be sentenced before charges are brought against BB?

Joe confessed before he was charged, but after he was charged, he entered a Not Guilty plea at his arraignment. So he's going to trial in January unless he makes a deal with prosecutors to plead guilty in return for testifying against BB. No, I don't think Joe has to be sentenced before BB is charged, but they probably want to wait to charge BB to see if Joe and his attorney can work out a deal.

DETROIT - The man who told police investigators he killed a Grosse Pointe Park woman may avoid trial with a plea deal.
Sources tell Local 4 Joe Gentz, who was a handyman for Jane Bashara's husband Bob Bashara, may have a deal in place which could be announced Friday in court. Gentz is expected in court Friday morning for his pretrial hearing.
Those close to the case say attorneys representing Gentz have been in negotiations with prosecutors and both sides have been working to make this deal happen before the end of the year.
What would the plea deal look like? It may be 2nd degree murder and a minimum of 20 years in prison for Gentz.
...
Sources say once the Gentz deal is done Bob Bashara himself may be next to face charges for his wife's murder. From day one investigators have felt Bob Bashara was involved in plotting his wife's death.

DETROIT (WXYZ) - In a plea deal announced Friday morning in the courtroom of Judge Vonda Evans, handyman Joe Gentz pleaded guilty to the murder of Jane Bashara of Grosse Pointe Park.
“Bob Bashara promised me money and threatened to kill me,” said Joe Gentz as he read from a document Friday.
Gentz entered a guilty plea to a charge of second degree murder.
Gentz’s deal means he will go to jail for between 17 but no more than 28 years.
His plea means he gave up his right to a jury trial.
Sentencing will take place on January 29, 2013 (Tuesday)

Handyman Joseph Gentz has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in exchange for a 17- to 28-year sentence.
In exchange, he agrees to cooperate with prosecutors, testifying he killed Jane Bashara because he was paid and threatened by her husband, Bob Bashara. His official sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 29, 2013.
"I killed Jane Bashara because Bob Bashara offered me money and threatened me," Gentz read to the judge from a statement. He also told the judge that he gave another statement to investigators on Thursday about the killing.
"You're pleading guilty to murder in the second-degree; do you understand that?" Evans asked him.
"Yes, ma'am," replied Gentz, wearing the tan suit he's worn to most court appearances. Judge Vonda Evans is also handling today the sentencing of four men convicted of kidnapping and murdering Hamtramck best friends Ashley Conaway and Abreeya Brown.

The handyman told the court that Bob Bashara, Jane Bashara's husband, promised him money and threatened him, according to WXYZ and the Detroit Free Press.
By John Hetzler, the author, 11:06 am
... Maria Miller, a spokesperson for the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, said the investigation into Jane Bashara's death is still open.
"The Jane Bashara homicide case remains under investigation," Miller said in an email. "No other charges are expected at this time."
Gentz’s plea is the latest in a case that has stunned the Grosse Pointe community.
Bob Bashara pleaded guilty to solicitation of murder in October, telling the court he tried to hire a hitman to kill Gentz. He was sentenced to 6-20 years in prison on Dec. 10.

There are no guarantees in life.. only they know when they are going to charge BB (unless they are not sure themselves yet) ... It might happen whenever basically ... BUT, i also think now, that it's starting to look like they might charge BB after JG is officially sentenced..

Like BB is locked up and is staying put for at least 6 years and 2 or 3 months (roughly speaking) .. so no real rush basically .. - the longer they postpone it -- the longer they will keep BB, his attorney and whoever else (including all of us) in suspence...
